A fully caffeinated Author Illustrator.

As a broad stroke that is how I would describe myself. With the additional accolade of tabletop game designer.

I enjoy coffee, cooking for people, bike rides and gaming socially as well as an annual viewing of the Lord of the Rings extended edition trilogy. And at the heart of all these are deeply engrained values in story telling, shared experience and play.

It is my great belief that play is not only a great method through which to learn new skills. but essential to a healthy lifestyle.

I have relentlessly endeavoured to craft new games and playful experiences over the years in order to tell compelling stories and invite friends and acquaintances into a world I have crafted with love for near a decade now.

Whenever I am not working on a client project or peripheral personal project I am usually found growing the world of a personal IP of mine, Tactical Teddies®.

Tactical Teddies® has encompassed all the platforms and genres I have enjoyed engaging with all in one convenient fictional land. From Playing cards and simple tabletop card games to a fully realised pen and paper RPG available for free on the Tactical Teddies website, and comics that have required the input of community members to progress and develop through their decisions not unlike a mix of D&D and a Choose your own Adventure novel.

Always remembering my core value at the heart of anything I put my mind to.

Explore and Play freely.

So what is HIWEZ?

When starting out as a public facing illustrator I found the concept of anonymity very cool, giving the artwork a sense of brand, people could become acquainted with the art itself instead of an individual, and there was a period of time in the morale patch and tactical industry that I felt I achieved that. People were seeking out “A Hiwez” for their collection and it had a certain swagger that I still enjoy today.

However, after becoming a father, the idea that any legacy I might be able to craft for myself would not only be disconnected from me, it would also bare no connection to my new growing family. Suddenly anonymity didn’t feel so cool.

And so with the pursuit of illustration work, through which I enjoy connecting with my children, I decided to wear the family name with a pride I hope they will also feel some day. After all what else does a parent desire than children who feel proud of their heritage.

A little look at the kinds of companies I have created illustrations for over the years.

At present they are primarily Tactical Gear companies looking to create mascots and merchandise for branches and campaigns. My goal is to add more clients to this pool who enjoy the field of story telling.
